Ruth Stout

Ruth Ellen Stout, age 92, passed away March 13, 2022. She was born on July 3, 1929, at Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her mother Lillian Serwana (1980) and husband Ralph Stout (1985). She is survived by two sons, Gregory R. Stout (Karen) in Centerville, Ohio, and Kenton L. Stout (Brenda) in Louisville, Kentucky, and three grandchildren, Mason Stout in Cincinnati, Ohio, Taylor Stout in Austin, Texas, and Madison Stout in Chicago, Illinois, as well as her beloved cat Isaiah.

She grew up in Georgetown, Ohio having graduated from Georgetown High School in 1948. After graduation, she worked for John Howard Houston (attorney) for two years. When Mr. Houston became Brown County Common Pleas Judge, Ruth continued working for him for 2 years. She loved legal work.

On Feb 11, 1950, Ruth married Ralph Stout. They began their marriage on the family farm in Hamersville, Ohio where they raised their two sons. Ruth then went back to professional work in 1973 in the Brown County Clerk of Common Pleas Court until retiring in 2005.

After her husband Ralph’s death in 1985, Ruth moved off the family farm and back to Georgetown.

Ruth enjoyed and was good at gardening, crafts, baking, and cooking. She would always have a family supper spread every night for her family.

Ruth loved animals, particularly cats. When it came time for her to move to an assisted living facility, she insisted her cat, Isaiah, move with her. She had an out of world connection with cats, so much that the care center where she lived had a house cat that ended up spending much of its time in Ruth’s apartment.

Ruth received tremendous support from her church family, and particularly from her very loving and caring neighbors Jeff and Cindy Bissantz, Jane Hanselman, and Butch Watson. The family cannot thank them enough for all they did for her.

The family would also like to thank all the employees of Brighton Gardens, Day City Hospice, and Villas Georgetown for the incredible care given to her.

There will be a private burial at Confidence Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at the Georgetown Church of Christ.
