Marion Richard “Dick” Clifton, age 64 of Brown County, Ohio, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 30, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 27, 1960 in Georgetown, Ohio the son of Anna M. (Colwell) Clifton of Mt.Orab, Ohio and the late Richard Marion “Dick” Clifton. Dick lived his entire life in Brown County, spending his life building. He was the owner and operator of Clifton Builders, building homes and creating a lasting foundation through his steady presence. Dick was patient, dependable and deeply committed to those he loved. His influence reached far beyond his work, seen in the relationships he nurtured and the life he modeled. More than his craftsmanship, it was Dick’s character that stood out. He lived with integrity, showed up without needing recognition and carried a calm strength that others relied on. His example will go on through the people who knew and loved him. Dick’s pride in his children and grandchildren was immeasurable. He demonstrated what it means to work hard, to be kind and to stand by the people you love. His lessons weren’t just spoken, they were lived out daily in the way he carried himself: steadfast, humble and always present. Besides his father in 2020, Dick was preceded in death by three grandchildren -Braylon, Brantley and Anna Lynn Rains and one brother-in-law - Mark Nickell.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Clifton is survived by his loving wife of 44 years- Joan (Nickell) Clifton whom he married, December 20, 1980; three children - Jaime Rains and husband Jake, Lindsay Lovelace and husband Ray and Marion R. Clifton II and wife Felicia; seven grandchildren - Kylee, Faith, Brett, Evan, Ryder, Mayzie and Sloan; three brothers - Tom Clifton and wife Coletta, Larry Clifton and wife Jennifer and Barry Clifton and wife Tonia; father and mother-in-law -AC and Ann Nickell; one brother-in-law - Chris Nickell and wife Melinda and many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Dick’s life was marked by hard work and quiet love. He didn’t seek attention, but he earned deep respect. He will be deeply missed and always remembered.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, April 3, 2025 at the Cahall Funeral Home in Mt.Orab, Ohio. Jeremy Mignerey will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Mt.Orab Cemetery in Mt.Orab, Ohio. The family would like everyone in attendance to wear a flannel shirt in Dick’s memory.
