Joe E. DeFosse, age 83 of Harrison, Ohio and formerly of Georgetown, Ohio died Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at his residence. He was an member of the Georgetown Church of Christ, was an auctioneer in the Portsmouth, Ohio area for several years and was employed by the P. Sullivan Shoe Company in Georgetown, Ohio and the U.S. Shoe Corporation in Greenfield, Ohio, and later in Harrison, Ohio, as a cutting and skiving supervisor. After retirement he traveled for U.S. Shoe as a leather and cutting consultant. Mr. DeFosse served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre with the 7th Infantry Division as a first aid man with Headquarters Company of the 17th Infantry Regiment. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. Mr. DeFosse was a lifetime member of the George P. Tyler Post #90 in Ripley, Ohio; a member of the Carey Bavis American Legion Post #180 in Georgetown, Ohio; a life member of AMVETS Post #56 in Tulare, California; life member of the V.F.W. Post #6428 in Addyston, Ohio; life member of the U.S. Army 7th Infantry Division Association and the 17th Infantry Regiment Association. He was born on May 17, 1923 the son of the late Joe and Rebecca (Henise) DeFosse.

Mr. DeFosse is survived by one sister - Ann Quinn of Cincinnati, Ohio; one nephew, Martin Quinn of Cincinnati, Ohio and many cousins and friends in Ohio and Kentucky.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 P.M. Monday, November 20, 2006 at the Cahall Funeral Home in Georgetown, Ohio with Military services provided by the American Legion Post #180 in Georgetown, Ohio. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. Monday. Interment will be in the Confidence Cemetery in Georgetown, Ohio. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post #180.
