James "Jim" Peter Bettle

December 24, 1940 — December 26, 2022

James “Jim” Peter Bettle, age 82 of Union Township, Ohio and formerly of Georgetown, Ohio died Monday, December 26, 2022 at his daughter’s residence in Hillsboro, Ohio. He was the Vice President of Ethicon Inc., a United States Vietnam War Navy veteran and a member of the Georgetown Church of Christ in Georgetown, Ohio and the Saltair Church of Christ near Bethel, Ohio. Jim was born December 24, 1940 in Chilo, Ohio the son of the late George Marshall and Helen (Piain) Bettle. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years – Joyce Marie (Heaton) Bettle in 2019, one son – Tony McGowan, one daughter – Tina McGowan and two granddaughters – Krista Bettle Keefer and Jordan McGowan.

Mr. Bettle is survived by five children – Jimmie Bettle and wife Dorenda of Wilmington, Ohio, Jerry Bettle and wife Lisa of Georgetown, Ohio, Stephan McGowan of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jeff Bettle of Hillsboro, Ohio and Alicia Bettle of Hillsboro, Ohio; eighteen grandchildren – Alan Bettle and wife Ashley, Joe Bettle and wife Tracy, Nia Bettle, Cory Bettle, Ty Bettle, Amber Snider, Zac Snider, Josh McGowan, Justin McGowan, Shane McGowan and wife Shelby, Chris Proud, Dylan Proud and wife Jamie, Emma Thompson-Bettle, David Bettle and wife Megan, Megan Hallowell and husband Seth, Amanda Stiffler and husband James, Dustin Stiffler and Aaron McGowan; twenty-one great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; four brothers and sisters – Betty Lou Fisch and husband John of Eastgate, Ohio; Joanne Highley of Eastgate, Ohio, Bob Bettle and wife Linda of Felicity, Ohio and Butch Bettle and wife Dee of Cincinnati, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at the Cahall Funeral Home in Georgetown, Ohio. Bob Wickline will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Confidence Cemetery in Georgetown, Ohio with military services by the Carey Bavis American Legion Post #180 of Georgetown, Ohio.
