Denver Martin Ruggles, 95 of Aberdeen, Ohio, passed away Friday, April 19, 2024 at the Hospice of Hope Care Center at Kenton Pointe in Maysville, Kentucky. He was born August 27, 1928 in Brown County, Ohio the son of the late Orel and Gladys (Groh) Ruggles.
Mr. Ruggles graduated from Aberdeen High School – Class of 1946. He was the last surviving member of the class of eight. After graduation, he attended the School of Automotive, Body and Fender Repair in Chicago, Illinois. After his training, he worked for H.T. Phillips of Aberdeen, Ohio, Rod Tolle of Manchester, Ohio and Harold Paeltz of Ripley, Ohio. He was also in partnership with Duane Campbell for several years in Ripley. Mr. Ruggles entered the U.S. Navy December 2, 1951 and served as a Radioman 2nd Class in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955. In 1961 he began a new career, going into the stone crushing business on his property near Higginsport, Ohio with deliveries being made at the publics request. This endeavor lasted until 1992. Mr. Ruggles was an outdoor person and was always willing to help someone in need. He farmed, served the community as a township trustee for four years, served on the Republican Central Committee for Huntington Township and served the village of Aberdeen as administrator for three years. He was also a member of Aberdeen Main Cross Church and held various positions including teaching adult Sunday school class and helping with Vacation Bible School. Mr. Ruggles was active in the Masonic Lodge. He was a member the Aberdeen Lodge #149, Russellville Lodge #166, Ripley Lodge #71, Maysville Lodge #52, Hillsboro Lodge #40, W.S.J Royal Arch #18 and the Valley of Cincinnati Scottish Rite.
Mr. Ruggles is survived by his loving wife of sixty years and one day – Glenda (Reed) Ruggles; one brother - Robert “Bob” Ruggles of Manchester, Ohio; two nieces – Roxanne Coulston of Maysville, Kentucky and Renee Huff of Russellville, Ohio; two nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 26, 2024 at Cahall Funeral Home will officiate. Pastor Troy Jolley will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, April 25 at the funeral home. Interment will follow the funeral service in Charter Oak Cemetery in Aberdeen, Ohio.
