Mr. Charles L. "Speed" Vaughn, age 85 of Ripley, Ohio died Saturday, June 18, 2005 at his residence. He was a self-employed carpenter, a United States Army WWII Veteran and a member of the DAV. He was born on June 13, 1920 in Springdale, Kentucky the son of the late Charles William and Lillie (Cobb) Vaughn. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Alberta Scott and Jean Blevins; three brothers - Cliff, John and Jim Vaughn.
Mr. Vaughn is survived by his wife of nearly sixty-three years, Myrtie M. (Miller) Vaughn; one daughter, Kathy Birchfield and husband Rick of Ripley, Ohio; two sons - Jimmy Vaughn and wife Margie of Higginsport, Ohio and Charlie Vaughn of West Union, Ohio; six grandchildren - Joyce Rickey of Russellville, Ohio, Missy Thompson of Russellville, Ohio, Joe Vaughn of Ripley, Ohio, Mike Helbling of Georgetown, Ohio, Justin Samuel Birchfield of Ripley, Ohio and Micah Birchfield of Hillsboro, Ohio; eight great-grandchildren - Ashton Rickey, Andrew and Ivy Abercrombie, Caitie and Joseph Vaughn, Lexie Helbling and Cody Collins, Zachary Birchfield; three sisters - Belle Littleton of Wichita Falls, Texas, Nettie Quinlan of Aberdeen, Ohio and Ethel "Rea" Goecke of Ripley, Ohio; one brother - Ray Vaughn of Georgetown, Ohio; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at the Cahall Funeral Home in Ripley, Ohio. Rev. John Neu will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 21 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Pisgah Ridge Cemetery near Ripley, Ohio. Military honors services will be provided by American Legion Post #367 of Ripley, Ohio.
